Have you heard of 060608.it?

To change to the English version of the site, look to the upper left hand corner and click on the three letters that say “eng”.

It’s an info hotline about the happenings of Rome. Think of it like one big huge directory of information. So if you’re heading to Rome this summer and are looking for something to do, check out this web site.

But it’s not only a web site. You can also call that number when you’re in Rome to get the latest and most up to date information. You can buy tickets to events and museums over the phone, too. The call center is open from 9:00 AM to 10:30 PM every day. Be careful though – it’s not a toll-free call, so you’ll be paying for the call whenever you use the service.

The site is broken down into three sections:

  1. Hospitality
  2. Culture and Leisure (basically, things to do)
  3. Events and Shows (more things to do)

The great thing about this site is that each section can be searched and filtered. Don’t worry about not knowing any Italian — there’s an English side to the site that works pretty well. For many of the events, there’s plenty of information about show times and locations as well as direction information (NB: The direction information will probably require some knowledge of Italian address system — best to ask at your hotel or call 060608 for directional information).

The site map is pretty decent too if you know what you’re looking for. Click on the words “Mappa” (for some parts of the English site it retains the Italian, but, don’t worry, it will show the page in English), and the site map page will appear with a directory listing of the various pages on the site.

The only drawback to this site is that you just get the basic of information. If you’re looking for details on a concert or show, you’ll probably have to go elsewhere, but usually 060608 is able to provide you with a link to another web site if you want more information.

Also, many of the pages that are returned to you can be printed out. They have printer friendly versions of many of the listings, so if there are a number of museums of events that you want to see, print them out and take the addresses with you so that you don’t have to jump into an internet cafe or return to your hotel to get an address or a location of an event.

Definitely a resource to know about on your next trip to Rome!
